![]() (This is another all-new, world premiere poem I'm written this year, which to me highlights what is truly magical and meaningful about having all those Christmas decorations up, being home for the holidays, etc. which is truly a bittersweet yet wonderful feeling. Some loved ones I've shared this with say they believe I've written "my '2000 Miles'" with this piece, which I'm absolutely honored by that in that "2000 Miles" is one of my favorite modern Christmas songs, and like that song I was trying to write a holiday song that touches on the more emotional, somewhat melancholy side of the holiday, yet resonates quite well to everything the Christmas season is truly about, and this is somewhat like "2000 Miles" in that it's all about missing a loved one, only here it's in memory, along with innocence.) * * ![]() Christmas With My Great Grandfather (The Magic Window) By: Noah Eaton 12/22/07 My great grandfather used to say, there's but a brief window in childhood for us all, a time we still have one foot in Heaven everyday, and all about the world is good and enthralls… a time when we are so open and carefree, a time when we take things so deeply, in that they will form us ever after endlessly, imprinting upon the winters of our times, and what that was is what it will be… …had I one magic ticket to traverse Time, to carve a snow angel on some nostalgic lawn… …hoping to see again through my new eyes, some former child's Christmas dreams foregone… . . . …he'd tell me Christmases we've always had, were always shaped by Christmases that came before, determined to remake the magic for our mom and dads, the magic that they had known and adored… …isn't that what collecting is all about, hearing their stories until they're made real to you, making you want to be where they had been with no doubt, you now know all the folks of whom they spoke, and everything they had seen is in full view, doesn't having contacts with ones Special Time, feel wonderful to you… …and had I one magic ticket to traverse Time, to carve a snow angel on some nostalgic lawn… …hoping to see again through my new eyes, some former child's Christmas dreams foregone… . . . Every ornament on your Christmas tree, unlocks doors in the mansion of your memory, welcoming back pieces of who we were into who we are, inviting your inner-child to live as part of you, to help reach into your heart… …and dive again through our own Magic Window… . . . Why do we let this window close, only seeing flashes of light from it as we grow, the memory of my great granddad's glazed with frost snow, but like decades-old Christmas lights, I know his youthful heart's still aglow… …and had I one magic ticket to traverse Time, to carve a snow angel on some nostalgic lawn… …hoping to see again through my new eyes, some former child's Christmas dreams foregone… . . . My great grandfather used to say, in childhood there's but a brief window, a time we still have one foot in Heaven everyday, if I could only see through his, his past can enchant everything I know… * "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa |

Enchanting ~ and highly nostalgic. A lovely gift of Christmas poetry, dear Mistletoe Angel. ![]() "My great grandfather used to say, in childhood there's but a brief window, a time we still have one foot in Heaven everyday, if I could only see through his, his past can enchant everything I know…" ~ Your great grandfather sounds like he was a wise and loving man. ~ Traits that have been passed on to his great grandson. Blessings of Christmas joy and a glorious new year! Linda ![]() ![]() |
