Lost in thought

0 posted 2007-12-19 04:44 AM

this time i hesitate...
afraid of endings and beginnings.
love and healing seem like words of poetry
but i read epitaphs and eulogies now.

each day i wonder if she'll die
and i can't even speak her name.
don't know why she stirs my thoughts
and i dream of  some old ugly peace
as i stare into a casket.

she lives.

old, as always i've known her
each whisper drips of wisdom.
her eyes are gentle.

i hear her from a distance now.
no one knows how much she means
how desperately i'll grieve her smile,
off-key hymns,
knowing she is close.

i'm in her prayers, she says.
and i believe her every time,
though sometimes she forgets my name.
and soon my face may be unknown,
the curve of my hand on her shoulder,
the softness of my voice.

i might forget her, too,
i don't know.
the future sings a different song
and i can't understand the words.
fear still clenches, slows my heart
and stills a tired soul.

last time i wrote poetry
somebody died.
and this time i'm not sure how to end.
what brings justice to her life?
should i say that i love her,
or would it selfish, irreverent, cold
to tell you that
i'll miss her when she's gone...

Hupomeno.

A fine eulogy, sensitive and loving.
You honor her memory with this gentle write.
Healing thoughts to you.

You are a sweetheart. That was very nicely written, and caring of you to write. Thank you for your friend who may not seem to know you at times.  I know her frail heart  remembers...   martyjo

Alyssa,
How finely you pen grief and sorrow. And yet you honor her life and her memory so gently. Your loss is not from writing it is from living and you are wiser for it. You have a special tender heart and have enriched my life by it all. Peace sweet friend.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

GG, when the mysterious transition of someone we love approaches we are so forlorn ... we think we won't be able to cope and we wish we were better equipped to endure the pain ...

You express this feeling with powerful sensitivity. A very touching, beautiful write.

Love,
Margherita

This is completely touching..grips at my heart...reminds me of the feelings that stirred in me while I watched my grandfather whither away... really, really hurts....

nicely penned heart and soul...
