First you see the moon It already hit the sky It slid behind the sun To abide until its time To croon its tune A chorus with the moon As the stars sing behind. After the stars sing you to sleep The moon begins its duty For at night the moon is like the judge The many stars its jury To unmask the shadows’ cruel deceits Beneath the weeping willow trees. Then the Moon becomes a shield Against the shadows’ fury For without the moon The shadows can skulk And not have fear or worry But the moon’s shining beams Finds them out and make their edges blurry. But for a couple of days each month It does not get out of bed For its repose is truly deserved But where will it rest its head? Sometimes like a fish beneath the sea Or it may sleep behind the hills beneath a swaying tree But wherever it sleeps It can rest in peace For it shines again for all to see. |
