If Mama Finds Out |

I remember Mama told me... That she loved me everyday. I remember how she'd sing "Old Shep" and "Put My Little Shoes Away". She said she'd beat me "'til my ears bleed" and that I'd "tear up Jesus Christ" I learned fast that coming to her in need sometimes wasn't worth the price. Hiding out... as her temper raged... In a little world of my own. I could go from page to page and never ever feel alone. But, when I'd sneak into this world... I'd hear shouts... When Mama found out. I remember Mama told me... Things like... "Don't stay out so long." "You can be ever so right... and be found to be so wrong." "Let your conscience be your guide." "It's the first voice that you hear." I know Mama never lied... but she couldn't hear too clear. Hiding out... as the blood ran down. Never ever fearing the pain. It's just a gash... Don't let it be found. Then the tears will fall like rain... If Mama finds out... Nothing hurts as bad... as when Mama finds out. I remember Mama told me... "Baby, say if somethings wrong" Then she'd hold me and console me with the words to some old song. Now, I sing alot...for comfort Time and pain both pass away. I can't say just where it does hurt... but it hurts alot today. Hiding out... as the tears run down... Never ever sharing the pain. It's just a heartache... Don't let it be found. Showing it will only bring shame... If Mama finds out... If y'all find out... If anybody finds out. |

Hiding out... as her temper raged... In a little world of my own. Aw, hon... as Neil Diamond sang in "I Am... I Said"... "Well, except for the names and a few other changes If you talk about me, the story's the same one" Powerful, poignant write... this went straight to my heart! |

This is a most moving write. Secret pain is the worst kind because it's like living a lie but we all lie - we just gotta. And a mother - we're the wise species generally and most times can be found two steps behind the kids. Always there when needed, you see. Just got to look back. |

Sounds a bit like my father. This is a moving and painful read. However, I have read it several times and don't regret stopping by any of those times. Alison |

Such a sad situation if you can't count on your mama. Pain held inside can fester and become a cancer. Let it out if you can. |
