Where no tyranny is tolerable

You only talk to me when prompted,
as if it were the polite thing to do.
Like, how are you?  I am fine.
And how are you?  Oh ,I'm fine too.
And what do I want to talk about today? etc.
Like mother use to telephone,
like the vacuous platitudes at the end of poems,
nice work, good jot, etc, etc.
the illusion of having a "real conversation."
It was so very tempting to imagine
I was having a true reciprocal exchange with you,
but then I discovered that, when my well was dry, as it is right now,
when I could think of little else to talk about or say, at least for now,
there was no word from you,
that you only talk to me when prompted to,
perhaps telling me
what I may have hinted I might like to hear,
that it was nothing
but an exercise in active listening.
And you were just acting as a sounding board.
You would hold my hand if I told (or asked) you to,
if only to be doing the polite thing,
while all the time,
I have really just been talking to myself,
just holding my own hand,
and deluding myself that it was something more.
But you only write when you are prompted to,
as though it might be a bit rude
not to say something in response.
It's okay.
It's only me, deluding,
talking to myself.
I guess you are just busy;
though not too busy
to say hello because I said hello ...
Still, I'll keep hoping that maybe ... ... ...

Southern Cross.

(if all you have to say to this piece is nice work, good job,
I have programmed JAWS not to read those messages).

Is this 'write' autobiographical and directed at a specific person
(or an expose of human nature...human behavior in general?)

I am perhaps incapable of doing 'slice of my life' (Realism) works...
but, I admire those who have both the courage and ability to do them...

Applause!

I enjoyed the message and the flow...I would be hesitant to tell someone how to respond to my writing, I'll take all comments good or bad, short or long, but hopefully not dwelling on the negative... This reveals a level of honesty about you, explaining what you want or don't want, thanks for sharing, and hope that JAWS accepts this comment...by the way, when someone says they enjoy my writing to me that is a wonderful thing, for me to provide them with a moment of enjoyment...James

Aw Jaime, this is truly so sad. I hope things get better for you, I truly do.

Good luck to you in the future.

I liked the roughness of this...the real, human...hard reality of this.  You can really write from your heart...that's what I appreciate the most.
Empathy for the situation...but bravo for the straight, clear rendering.

Oh, Jaime, it sounds as though you are in a very difficult place in your life at the moment.

" when my well was dry, as it is right now,"

You may find those who may just speak in platitudes, very annoying. However, platitudes are certainly better than nothing and certainly better than being ignored or verbally abused! ~ and besides, it is still positive energy that is being directed to you.

You appear hungry for deep conversation ~ and one of reasons for that is probably because you have a great deal to share in return. Yours is a fascinating, intelligent, philosophical and inquiring mind and it needs to interact with other minds.

I hope you never shut yourself off from others. That would most assuredly be a shame.

I trust that JAWS won't eat my reply! lol

May your well runneth over with meaningful conversations ~ and poetic ink.

It is good for you to vent, rant, and rave and get it all out of your system and to make known to others how you truly feel about things.

Sending a big, comforting hug to you, JF,

EA
