Brick lined streets will take you back to where I'm from.
Mennonite bonnets shielding sparkling eyes,
that dance to the clip clop of horses.
The Paletine near the Rhine holds secrets of the elders.
Hushed religion forcing them to migrate.

The Emerald Isle is a warm gem in my pocket.
A treasure my soul wears for all to see.
Will always remain part of who I am,
although I've yet to touch her green shores.
She knows I shall return to her, be it this life or the next.

I come from a daughter of Cherokee beauty.
I know this as surely as I know my mothers dark eyes
and high cheek bones.
The animals know of where I've come.
We shared our tales of long ago campfires.

Great job ... I especially love these two lines:

The animals know of where I've come.
We shared our tales of long ago campfires.

Home is not where you live,
but where they understand you!

Tina, I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know our fellow pipsters better through their poetic responses to Patricia's challenge.

As one goes back in their genetic history, one realizes that many of us have come from a varied gene pool. My great grandmother's family came from Switzerland and had emigrated to the United States and then came to Canada.

Thank you so much for sharing these aspects of who you are and your family history. Much enjoyed!

Loving hug,
Linda

Thank you both.

So sorry if I didn't follow any 'rules' with this. I couldn't find where they were, if any.

You're more than welcome to do this again, and again, and again, Tina. In any fashion, at any time.

Well done!

I love your poem
and I don't know if 'rules' apply
when you write so eloquently.

This is wonderful and I hope you can share it with your mother.

I seek out your poems.

I think by now we are all a little "mixed up". It's so interesting to read these poems. Yours is a refined example, dear Tina!

I especially loved:

Will always remain part of who I am,
although I've yet to touch her green shores.
She knows I shall return to her, be it this life or the next.

we simply KNOW this, you are right!

to Linda: wow, I am pleased to learn that you have Swiss blood, sweet sister!

Beautifully written, dear Tina.

Love,
Margherita

'rule following'...or not?!...

This is EXCELLENT!

I especially love the ending!:

"I come from a daughter of Cherokee beauty.
I know this as surely as I know my mothers dark eyes
and high cheek bones.
The animals know of where I've come.
We shared our tales of long ago campfires(!)"

serious, long-sustained applause!!

What an enjoyable read! Nice to 'meet' you!
Rules? There are none...it's whatever comes from you as a unique individual.

What a beautiful way of describing loving a place of one's heritage:

"The Emerald Isle is a warm gem in my pocket."

I mean to remember that one.
