Rondeau 12-07

I thought I’d write a letter to
someone I love; but let’s be true:
let me declare there’s no such one.
When all is said, admit it’s done.
I’ll write; or yes, confess, to you

the bird’s not on the wing, it flew
away some years ago.  We strew
the nest to snow where coyotes run.
I thought I’d write:

Today, it seemed you also knew;
I thought you understood how few
the hours would be, and how the sun
might set with two no longer one.
But then that kiss....  What can I do?
I thought I’d write.

Margherita and Magnus, thank you so much for looking at this one.  For me, a Rondeau is as difficult as a Sestina.  But every now and then I try to do one just to show myself I still can.  Thanks for your encouraging words.
