The Last Time I Held Aunt Georgie's Hand

I held her feeble hand
forced a gaze into fading, blue eyes
tubes, needles and a numbing machine
clicking down the hours, minutes
until coffin lids cover blue
and memories become sanctuary
of terra firma days;
warm hands
bright eyes
and laughter
