In the precision of the surgeon's hands I find an odd comfort watching through a long trained lens accepting the focused clarity of pain, I see him trim away the debris of my errors, the errors of youth hunger and pride, nerves that should scream wait patiently to die on the edge of his calm blade; he is not fooled by meditative breathing silently paced to brace against the deliciously bright intensity of pain, he smiles tightly as tiny drops of red rain dance patterns on his hands, all I've left to offer, we both are practiced at our arts steady and calm, speed it seems is the essence, no time for pleasantries in this business where blades flaked of stone are as yet unmatched by modern steel when memory decides to resurrect old wounds to be sure I don't indulge in the amnesias of age. ©2007 by icebox . |

I was there with you, and I didn't want to be. Really didn't want to be. Excellent. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

"where blades flaked of stone are as yet unmatched by modern steel when memory decides to resurrect old wounds to be sure I don't indulge in the amnesias of age" As always....love your writing but these lines caught my inner ear. Those must have been some interesting/insightful memories! Don't know whether this was an analogy or whether you just had surgery....in either case, I surely hope you are healing swiftly! Take care, Mr. C. *hugs*.....jo |
