My Wishes As I sit here now and contemplate And think of my wishes in the past, On my mother’s nerves I sure did grate, On my daily wish for quick repast. About the time that I’d turned three, My dad was a most reluctant giver, He frowned & said ‘I’m not a money tree’, When I asked him for a three-wheel friver. It was my earliest remembered wish But Dad’s bark was worse than bite, Although he told me not to talk gibberish, My beloved friver came to light. Then through my early school-day years, Which was a daily trip that we had to hike, A fervent wish that would dry my tears, Was Gramps purchase of a second hand-bike And when at last school days were o’er, My wants and wishes began to change, The time had come for me to explore, Those far away places over the range. In my early twenties my wish was for a wife And like a bloodhound on the chase I sort some lovely wench to share my life, A gorgeous girl to take my mother’s place. To go and find someone who was decent, Had most certainly been in me instilled, I found a lovely girl for the big event, My fervent wish was now fulfilled. We both wished for a family, children of our own And having five was the number that we fancied, The following fifteen years had quickly flown And our most treasured wish was answered. Beneath the bridge of time, life passes by And now my wish has somewhat changed, Good health, long life, and great happiness too For us all, until we pass over the range. . |
