Welcome to the Midnight Nation Land of the Unapologetically Jaded Where silohettes of ideallistic romances Lie lifelessly in the streets Where the denizens of suburbia dwell So beautiful with their store brought smiles and black hole eyes Or the picturesque display of the people with no names, living on the edge of drunken nightmares, searching for salvation Or the overzealous fanatics, these soldiers of light secretly wanting to hang themselves with their Bible Belts Welcome to the Nation of the corporate messiahs Bane of the working class, advocates of the well to do Oaths and cons of the new Great Ceasar play in your ear to downplay deaths of unsung heroes Where sweet little girls dream Of Silicon Valley and the sweet nothings it whispers in their ears Welcome to your home And the melodramatic trend We'll give you a vial to hold your tears And a romance to plunge the knife in Oh, lovechild of rebels deformed into an abortion A facsimile of an ideal Possibly doomed from the start Goodnight, dear nation, you've taken your final bow The angels no longer sleep at your feet. |

Ah, but did they ever? Where Cotton Mather preached that the stench of dead Indians was a pleasant smell in God's nostrils? Where were the angels then? The same place they are now, I think. I like the flow of this one, and the way you use language. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
