LOVE IS STRANGE When we were all young with time to spare My husband's sister and her spouse were the perfect pair. Clearly she considered him her prize. She always hung on his arm and gazed adoringly into his eyes. With hindsight I realized the truth, She was obsessed with him but he was rather aloof. Being young and foolish, I considered them candidates for "until death do us part." because I didn't understand the ways of the heart. She never challenged his opinions, or had any of her own, so she had no coping skills when he left her all alone. On the other hand, my brother and his wife went quite a few rounds. She was strong and opinionated and always held her ground. But though she insisted on having her say, she was always there when the chips were down. Over the years they found their way. Both are retired and together today. They've grown old together and mellowed out. It's clear they know what it's all about. But if you would have told me way back then How their stories would eventually end, I wouldn't have believed how things would change. What can I say but, "Love is Strange." Ida Werrett |

your poem was a real observation of how strange love is and the people who find it together. i know of people who seemed so opposite, how they ever came together and stayed is a real mystery and then those that seemed perfect didn't make it. cheers and thanks for the poem j.d. |

Ida, once more, you astound me with your powers of observation and your down-to-earth sensibility ~ as well as your way of transcribing those qualities onto the written page! ![]() I must confess, that my marriage was more in the order of your first example. Alas, what once brought such sweetness, later brought much sorrow. However, through adversity, I became a strong, independent woman! The old adage is true! ~ "Every cloud has a silver lining!" Love to you! Linda ![]() |

"My husband's sister and her spouse were the perfect pair. Clearly she considered him her prize. She always hung on his arm and gazed adoringly into his eyes. With hindsight I realized the truth, She was obsessed with him but he was rather aloof." ........................................ This is interesting. I feel their marriage left him with no challenge. He did not have to do anything for her devotion. I knew a young lady who divorced a wonderful man because she said he was too good. She felt she could not live up to him. Your sister in law was too easy. He lost respect for her. I learned that many men like a little spunk in a wife. Someone who can think and talk and not be a yes man. Just my thought "late" |

You are so right, Late. That was exactly the problem and since I am the complete opposite of that type of women, as we grew older I lost respect for her also. I did feel sorry for her though because I don't think she could help herself. Ida |

It sometimes takes a long time to learn how to speak up. And how surprised when we learn someone listens and things change."late" |
