A Mother’s Kiss
by Linda L. Dowd

Lying there, so innocent,
my baby sweetly sleeps.
While beyond the open window,
a swaying, willow weeps.

A canopy of star shine,
spans across her downy bed,
While beams of pale moonlight,
dance across her bonnie head.

Brahm’s Lullaby is playing,
as a ballerina spins on toe.
And on a bentwood rocker,
lies her kitten of calico.

The baby scents of powders,
and of soaps fill up the room.
To me they are far sweeter,
than the finest French perfume.

I listen to her breathing,
as I look upon in bliss.
Then on her moonlit forehead,
I place a mother’s kiss.

Lying there, so innocent,
my baby sweetly sleeps.
While beyond the open window,
a swaying, willow weeps.

A canopy of star shine,
spans across her downy bed,
While beams of pale moonlight,
dance across her bonnie head.

Linda Angelo, this is so sweet and so very timely for me, as last week my daughter has given us the gift of our second grandson Milo, whom I imagine just like this sleeping and loved and cared for by his mommy ... and by his granny too in a few days ...

I enjoyed this deeply and I am smiling ... you ARE an Angel, who could have any doubts?

Wonderful!

Love and hugs, sweet Poetess.

MarchMadness ~

Thank you, Ida! I was just having a flash-back to when my daughters were babies. They shared the same room and I often had moments such as the one in this poem. I wanted to record this this one with my voice and music because I often sang them to sleep and I am making a CD for them of my songs and recited poems.

Love to you!

Margherita ~

Is Milo going to be a brother ~ or a cousin ~ for Simon?

This is exciting news! I am so happy for you all. Milo has been born into a loving and talented family!

I appreciate your comments about my poetry ~ and the ones that you blessed me personally with, as well.

Giving you lots of love and smiles,

Linda

Lindsay ~

Yes, a portrait that is picture perfect of both of my daughters when they were babies. Now they are young ladies ~ and they are even more beautiful on both the outside ~ and on the inside ~ where it really counts!

Thank you for the sweet response, Aussie Man.
~ and once more I would like to thank you for the especially nice tribute poem that you wrote for me. It brings tears to my eyes.

Giving you an extra warm, loving hug,

Linda

WOW.
This poem put me right back in my daughters bedroom. I could almost smell the baby powder and feel how soft their forehead is when kissed.
Thanks.

You had me smiling all the while I was reading your reply! I hope that you slept the peaceful sleep of a baby!

May all your dreams be that of an innocent babe! Well, perhaps your dreams themselves, need not all be innocent! lol

Sweet dreams!

This is so lovely! *S*

I spent part of the weekend going through old photographs... found ones of me and my mother as toddlers... erase the years and we could have been twins. *S*

It's so easy to remember all that came later... your words leave me wondering if, once upon a time... it was like this for us. *S*

Belle, I have a knowing, that that was so. Your mother must have loved you very much.

After going through albums on the W/E, I believe that you were meant to open this post.

Yes, you would have been given many a tender, loving "mother's kiss".

Love to you, my friend!

This particular post is very special to me and I was pleasantly surprised to see it rise back up into view. Those moments with both of my baby girls, are memories that I will always treasure.

Thank you!
