maybe it is the curiosity
when you turn over stones
in your evening gown

stopping traffic in an instant
and asking me questions
about what is on the other side

of the road I would lead you down
or would we even cross completely
maybe just stay in the middle

and go both ways together
chasing the parked cars we missed
riding in when we were younger

or parking in cars we hurried in
and wanted to spend more time knowing
from the inside out without

the protection of our lover's gloves on
