Is it uncommon to crave the past the way things were sometimes? I think it is a human thing to yearn for sights, sounds, feelings, once familiar once real, once so easily in reach, gone now vanished, polluting newborn air with shards of shattered used to be. I want simplicity the things of thought defined cut clearly for me to see without the need for questions. A road sign in fluorescent green, an insect trapped in amber a cat's eye in polished stone smoke signals on a clear horizon, yet even the past isn't what it used to be, if sober memory serves me right. Funny, how memory paints in pretty strokes, when reality leaves regret as aftertaste. ©2007 by icebox . |

quote: When we go back we see things differently than they were, the context is different, our eyes capture things differently, but it still feels good every now and then to dive into the past. But NOW is still the best time to live in, because we can create our life, mold it, change it, while the past is in a certain sense untouchable. Wonderful write, as usual. Love, Margherita |

I am particularly fond of the ending: "memory paints in pretty strokes, when reality leaves regret as aftertaste." AMEN to that!! and, I would dearly love a few things 'clearly "defined...without the need for questions(!)' ALSO most fine: "an insect trapped in amber a cat's eye in polished stone smoke signals on a clear horizon" serious, sustained applause for this 'write'! |

Nothing is what it use to be. And, even if we could go back to the past, it wouldn't be the same. |

Thoughtful and eloquent but you know what that songs says "You never can go home again" and it's so true. Ida |

"how memory paints in pretty strokes, when reality leaves regret as aftertaste." Yes, a thoughtful write, icebox, and the above is so true but, you know, it's only the learning process that brings in regret and we have to go through that - hmm? maybe to just repeat the same things in a next lifetime. I'd like to hope not but who really knows. |

On the one hand, ditto, although I could never had said it so eloquently, but on the other hand, it is the nows that make the yesterdays. Beautiful poem, Icebox. - Owl |
