Rest awhile near a river-mouth, and ponder the symphony of her journey south In a heartbeat of drum rolls mid a flow of flutes, syntactic free-falling along serendipitous routes, an undulating choreography of fast and slows, she transports a body in her highs and lows. With graceful movements rhythm and flow andante through allegretto to rapid presto! over sculpted boulders smooth as silk fall mystical dreams made of fantasy’s ilk, point and counterpoint to some distant shore where unquenchable thirst shall be no more. Let your body be carried in celebration-swirl, as hydrogen and oxygen tease lips to curl in anticipation, as molecules fill your soul with life-essence infused in a full-cup goal. Poetic allusions to sweet sacred water are rife, from parched minds lost in life-desert strife. But for all living things on Gaia to thrive, we must make sacrifices if we hope to survive. Polluting rivers and draining them dry can only wreak havoc, in the end we will die. Rest awhile near a river-mouth, and ponder what she carries on her journey south. |

I am right there with you, as I have always been in love with the seductive mouth of the Columbia. I love the watery, musical flow of your write, and the Midnitesun- style of the message. |

Thank you! I almost didn't post this because the ending seems too 'preachy' though the environmental awareness message is barely implied. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (07-15-2007 06:13 PM).] |

Kacy, a wondrous read...knowing full well, that not all waters travel southerly, and some have to take a northerly to reach a westernly before they curve around a shoulder of shoal and then reach once again easternly, before they again follow gravity of some hemispheric flow... and yet, we believe, oh, indeed, we do... that all waters reach southerly, yes, it's true... but one thing yet, I have not dreamed, other than for fountainheads, water doesn't flow upstream a very tenacious downstream flow unless it's in the grip of something we don't quite yet know.... ~*~ I think my imp got ahold of my pen! |

This is beautiful - and I agree that it is an important message that you are sharing. I live near a large river and I am able to enjoy the beauty of it. I would hate to think of it polluted. A |

Oh my sweet sistah, don't write in fear of sounding preachy--I like you best unbridled. You remind me a lot of my friend, Elizabeth yanno. ![]() Write on, loud and proud. You are beautiful, and your message is much clearer than the muddied Mississippi that is my river. (That's right, people, my river. I'm just very gracious about allowing others to think otherwise.*winks* to Kacy) Come home soon, you! ![]() |

Thank you friends, for reading this one. Sigh, Karen, that lady Miss is a song in her own right, even when muddy. |

This is beautiful and don't worry about being preachy - some people need it. |

I love this work. Nothing constuctive to critique at all. I felt pulled along with the poem, experiencing all it had to offer. You used music as a metaphor, a beautiful combination. |

Is south the dominant direction of flow of most of Earth’s rivers?!...I wonder?!... (never really thought about it before)….. I love the analogy of the river’s flow and journey to music and a symphony! I am particularly fond of the imagery of: “an undulating choreography of fast and slow…” and: “…graceful movements rhythm and flow andante through allegretto to rapid presto!” good and timely environmental message contained herein as well! one tiny point…I wish there was an ‘alternate choice’ to the rather unpleasant word ‘ilk’! serious applause!! |

LOL, bad typo Bruce, and it's too late to edit. That line ending should read "milk" not ilk. Karilea, thank you for your comments! |
