Where do women hide their love, what quiet place is it that nurtures it through famine, that lets it shine in memory as light that casts no shadow, is it kept with hopes and dreams packed away to save from breakage like dishes never used? When a woman walks barefoot on the earth, on the warm and living earth, there are no footprints to be found; it is impossible to leave tracks upon one's self, and when a woman screams out in passion, in frustration or in rage, there is no difference to be found in the sound of the panther hunting for survival in the night. Where is this place, love's sanctuary, is it kept inside her heart, poets' folly heart's only a pump hoping between each beat to retire; is it kept in legs strong enough to run away, until one day we can grow tired from playing evolution's game of lock and key; is it folded between her ears, like doilies knotted in a crotchet of precious of poetry? A woman's love could be hidden anywhere, though I think it isn't ever hidden anywhere special as long as it can be tucked out of sight quickly, to defeat random acts of carelessness in a china shop of life. ©2007 by icebox . |

icebox - yes, of course, you always give us a good and thought provoking read. Thank you! Perhaps a woman only hides her love from the "undeserving" (for lack of a better word) and then it's so well hidden that even she can't find it. Now, I guess what needs to happen is for you to think and write on "why" love is hidden. I think both sexes are guilty of that so it's okay to do it from a male perspective and perhaps someone out there will write from a woman's perspective. |

"Where do women hide their love, what quiet place is it that nurtures it through famine" love those lines. that quiet place just may suffocate it for good if it stays there too long. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

thoughtful, effectively thought-provoking and powerfully expressive 'write!' I am especially fond of: the image of a: “quiet place… let(ting love)…shine in memory as light that casts no shadow…”; AND love that: “… can be tucked out of sight quickly, to defeat random acts of carelessness in a china shop of life(!)” v. serious, long-sustained applause!! |

I really enjoyed this piece. Really liked to relation to china. Our love is a very fragile thing and that is why we hide it sometimes. |

quote: Fantastic write, icebox! ... and I agree with Karen's and Martie's reply! Love should never be hidden, but then you are right, certain circumstances make it necessary... Love, Margherita |
