What My Father Taught Me When I think of what my father taught me Really makes me stop and meditate, It makes me think of things important That perhaps has changed my fate. Right from an early infancy He taught me things he knew, To always do unto others As you would have them do to you. First he taught me how to love, The strength of family ties, The benefit of self discipline, A beneficial trait that none denies. He taught me the value of honesty, To make my word my bond, To treat everyone on equal terms And from the truth not to abscond. He taught me the value of a smile And not all good things to expect, But above all he taught me To earn my fellow man’s respect. |

Gee...are you part of the "father knows best" cast?? Just kidding....don't mean to deride the seriousness of the tone here my friend, but that was just to wide-open for a fool like me. I understand fathers - having been one for 30 some years a n d not having ever know my own, nor any other until about 30 years ago when my mother married him who I think of as my Dad. I hope, to my kids, I have first and foremost been a Dad, then a Father and mentor, and in some why instilled in them the people they've turned out to be --- but with my luck,, it all comes from my wife's side and I just tagged along for the ride!!! It's wonderful you've gained so much from your own father, my friend, and that you know it. Many never do and never will know that kind of pleasure and love.... jwesley |

Dear LP, what I have learned from reading your poetry, your father appears to have taught you very well! It is apparent that the acorn did not fall far from the tree! ![]() ![]() Linda |

Lindsay, your Dad taught you very well. And, it sounds as though you listened very well, also. My parents taught me the same as you learned. A good way to live, I believe. Hugs and God bless, Ethel |

Jwesley, Linda and Ethel, it's a funny thing that when I was a teenager I thought dad didn't know much, but the older I got, the more I realized that there wasn't very much that he didn't know. Iv'e tried to pass on to my children the same things that were taught to me and up to date they haven't put a foot wrong. Thank you kind folk for your accolades and friendship and may the sun shine upon you, take care. Lindsay. |

The benefit of self discipline On of the things that are tough to teach and to learn ... but it's worth the effort! Very beautiful tribute to your Father. Love, Margherita |
