Melville may have had it right about True Places And how they are never put down on any map Certainly, no “X” marks the old oak where a young man May have sat in a lap of roots, his back and shotgun, both Leaned against an august trunk The wind, sky and November sun telling him that within The hunt, killing was the least of it No atlas exists of the ethereal world of color and space Texture and shape, where a very few, the unique, the mad Have found possibility able to condense and become In the short distance between the brush and the canvas A strident, urgent presence needing birthed Or this rough cabin, where my own white whale swims free Able, always, to avoid the sharp stab and capture by my pen |

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...you! I miss you so much. *pout* (This guy just talks like this, folks.) You are one of the wisest poets I know here. You never did assume a voice, just kept your own, and you surprise, even me, who has come to expect the unexpected from you. Now, I'll try to get back to my own whale hunt--in a pirogue! thwack thwack thwack |

"The wind, sky and November sun telling him that within The hunt, killing was the least of it" Much truth in this. |
