Eating Crow One morning, I went to the front door to fetch the mail. Standing there looking back at me, was a crow with no tail. Well, not exactly no tail, but more like a stump. When he tried to fly, he could only jump. And not very far, more like a hop. So when he tried to hop, up onto the rail, he didn't get far 'cause he had no tail. When I opened the door, to give him an assist, he let out a cry as if to resist. That brought his mumsie, who cawed really loud, so I closed the door, lest I attract a crowd. I thought to myself "he'll never fly, why he's much too young, to even try." Then he walked to the curb, to cross the street. Too young to fly, he had to rely on his feet. The very next day, he was back for more. If the black cat sees him, he'll be gone for sure. Then he disappeared, for about a week. Returned with tail feathers, long and sleek. Jumped up onto the metal rail, spread his wings, and then did sail. Up, up and beyond the rooftop, born to fly, and not to hop. [This message has been edited by moondogz (10-04-2007 11:59 AM).] |

Well, I worried about that darn crow from the beginning to the end of your poem, A tribute to your writing skill, I'm sure. Ida |

Oh, I was so relieved that this story had a happy ending! I was fearful that he might have gotten eaten by the cat or hit by a car while attempting to cross the road! You have observant eyes ~ and a tender heart. ![]() Up, up, and away! ![]() EA |

aha! I love your style, it's very unique, well in the sense that I personally have not seen the likes of it ![]() |

Thanks T.Cooper, funny thing is that's the one and only time I ever used that style. Check out "The Element of Time" poem on this site...I thought it was so good and it flew beneath the radar unfortunately. |

Oh, I was so happy to read the last lines. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story, which also reminds us that we can realize anything if we persist and trust ourselves. Very nice. Love, Margherita ![]() |
