Keys on my Key Chain There are keys on my key chain that I have never seen before They don’t start my car They don’t fit into the front door They seem to glisten in the sun and are warm to my finger’s touch But, they don’t open any locks These keys don’t seem to do much I don’t know why I keep them I don’t know where they came from But, they shine like molten gold under the warmth of summer sun The more I look upon them the more my mind can almost see that these keys are here for a reason Maybe they are meant to remind me Because when I see them I remember that you love me and that you care Yes, they hang there for a reason and that’s to remind me you are there You are there when I need you You are there to wipe my tears You are there when I need a shoulder You are there to ease my fears There are keys on my key chain that I have never seen before I have learned they are very special for they open up your heart doors --- Alison [This message has been edited by aziza (07-15-2007 04:27 PM).] |

Aww. I really liked this. My set is weighty, complete with remotes. Pretty soon I'll have to drag them along in a wagon, but after reading you, I find them less hassling. |

Alison, Just spent an hour catching up on all your prose and a lot of your poetry. Lately it's not often I get time to fit this in and right now I am again waiting for a couple of people to call around to bring me back to working again! First, can I say how much I admire your writing and the 'inner knowledge' within it gained by life's 'experiences'. I was drawn to this piece of work, not only because I am the world's worse for building up keys on my keyring which I have no idea what they ever did, but also because I feel that your 'keychain' is what I often refer to as my 'toolchest'. During life we pick up a lot of skills and knowledge that we carry around with us and subconciously use when dealing with new situations. It is this that makes us what we are, but usually we are not actually looking for the key that fits the lock, we just use it. I spend a lot of time helping people identify their abilites and recognize them in order to quickly deal with things and situations that happen in their work. This reminded me of your keychain (my toolbox). Once we can easily identify each key (tool) it means we are more able to use it to help us. Beauty is, the more you identify, and the more you do, the bigger the keychain (toolbox} becomes. Although it may become heavy to handle it does make opening new pathways easier though. I suppose what I am saying is take every key you have and find out how you got it, surprising what benefit that will give you! Oh, and maybe some of those 'purchases' weren't only made by your sister... believe in the magic. Ivor [This message has been edited by ivordavies (01-12-2008 11:20 AM).] |

I'm sure glad this one came back since I missed it the first time around I remember when my keychain was like that, but sometimes reminders are painful now I only carry the keys I need |

I also missed this before. I'd so like to have a key chain like yours but I guess I'm not meant to have the right key to open the right heart door! Guess I'll just stick to the practical ones. |

Very rare indeed that I log onto any poetry or literary forum and feel truly and I mean truly truly moved by a piece. I can only express how balanced in its rhyme, rhythm, metaphor, literary devices...a pleasant dance on the fence of a very interesting thought and an even more interesting feeling. I do not give compliments like this lightly. You write much better than I. I am humled by this poem. Yvette |

A wonderful way of being "with you" in a vicarious way. Who doesn't need a confidant and friend ... even if some nights it just has to be a fantasy ... The keys represent magic marbles, springs that can be drawn upon again and again, and yet they are always full. In my house I have some "sacred objects" that keep me connected and remind me of a friend. and now, when the world has been a bit too much, and I am feeling a bit too lonely or ignored, it is possible to be with you in a vicarious way. I want to go to sleep but can't. |

Those words hit to the inside. You can feel them throughout the heart. I can't help but feel a sense of tranquility after reading that. Bravo. |

Alison, What a charming write. It touches the heart of every reader, in ways that were unknown to them until they read you. That's what poetry is all about. Getting to the inner core of the possible thought... gone unspoken. Well done, dear. Very well done. |

Dear Alison, I had not seen this before, I am glad I got to read it now, because it is really a beautiful thought you develop here. Your heart is a beautiful place, it is aware of the gifts it has received and able to feel the gratitude and to express it. How precious. Love ... and a golden hug Margherita ![]() |

Ivor, It was a surprise to see this poem make an appearance again. It always catches me a bit off guard when a poem I write comes back to the top months after I have posted it. But, you made this poem more special to me. I have enjoyed your poetry since you came to PiP - and to know that you seek mine out all is a thrill. That may sound a bit ... hmmm ... trite, but it is true. I remember how you asked me to take a poem and develop it into prose. Did it become two or three posts? I can't remember and am too lazy to go look. Writing about my past and my father is not hard, but I might confuse people. I learned long ago that he was two people - and my poetry often reflects my feelings about both parts of him. I do believe in magic. I do believe that magic comes from within and we can only cultivate it within ourselves. I think that your toobox and my keys are remarkably similar. They may grow heavy at times, but the burden is lessened by the wonder that they both bring. I have no intentions of losing my keys - and even if they seem to lessen, I think they just get set aside for a time. They remain with us. Thank you for reading, and thank you even more for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response. Alison |

Dixie, I think that the keys are always with us. We polish them, hold them close and set them aside - but, they never leave. We just have to find them when we misplace them. I am glad that you are back. I missed the hell out of you, girly. xoxoxo A |

Helen The best thing about my keychain is that there is always room for more keys! It's not a chain for one person - it's a chain for all people who grow to mean so much to me. I bet that your keychain is a lot bigger than you think. I read your responses and poetry and I see a beautiful and kind woman .. I bet that more people have you on their chain than you think. Thank you for reading and writing, xoxoxo A |

I've also just come back. Thank you for your kind comments to me, Alison, and Margherita is right. Your individual replies are a gift to each. Yeah, I guess my key chain is heavy but the one I really, really need isn't there to be seen. The others, however, enable survival in ... the jungles of Africa, South Africa, where concrete rules the day and crime is here to stay. ![]() Back to the top! Helen |
