Why do I linger on these thoughts of a coming storm, With ice and snow pulled from the depths of winter When the winds are still blowing with touch so warm? Why do I linger on dreams of darkness so deep, Where the lights of day have faded from view? Dark dreams that come not only in my sleep. Here I linger in the heart of a violent city Of thugs and drugs commanding the corners That takes innocents without a shred of pity. Why do I linger where life is spent so cheep Walking alleyways where blood might spill When I could be home in my nightmare’s keep? How easy it is to stay, just another day, When sensibility says run away. Gloom |

A great poem, including the rhyme and rhythm. Even though I am not living in a violent city, these last few weeks are enough to make me want to "runaway" too...but to where? is the question. ![]() M |
