(another old one [from 2003 I think] that I never posted here before. Even though I may be better now, I still like this one for some reason. Paris in this one is pronounced "pairee" and there's that Seine pun. Lame, huh?) Girlfriend Road The night is all parrot squawks and gypsy feather green we tickled the sore underbelly of a neon gay Paris now a tambourine rain falls driving the honeymooners in Seine and the cathedral song echoes through the scattering pigeon square as I search for you there The bitters of a windy martini on the April sky and in every sunlit Monet canvas the waters so blue they’re taking pills and eyes dancing in memory here I find evidence of you and I sleep in your cloche smile crushed and velvet like my heart then the laughter of children a park rimmed dusk and I still search for you In the cloud’s keep kingdom of the goddess rain her depression grays the cityscape and into the gallery hall and bad coffee I gaze rhythmic patterns fingered by nothing it seems ghosts of your cold hands once wrapped like a bow around this gift heart of mine and tracing the sad smile of my chest here I realize, in my moody downpour I have found you. "Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite and I don't know why" -- Van Morrison, 'Sweet Thing' |
