The Spur I shrug my shoulders in aver This thorn that sticks my rump this spur To recognize the rolling tide This aging time zone, my abide I would to do so many things I’ve wasted spring that’s taken wing And breathe impatience at the chide This spur that pricks this thinning Hyde I would to say a proper say Those things I learned along the way But cannot guarantee what’s left And cannot stay that time bereft I know not why I should pursue Though feel somehow it much past due I think it more to sate my mind Than change the doings of unkind So I would put these thoughts to bed For I will be a long time dead |

think I understand...loved this neat stanza with its slick wordplay "I would to do so many things I’ve wasted spring that’s taken wing And breathe impatience at the chide This spur that pricks this thinning Hyde" Used to hear my father say, "It'll put grit in your craw"...think I'm finally understanding it, 'tis a bit of a spur... |
