the boardwalk simple meandered through the town from livery to living oak that lent the lane its name serving as the thoroughfare to travel thereupon measuring the boundaries of village citizenry as shoppers passed the glass-front stores of aged display exchanging hard-earned coins for time-worn jars of clay and set their sighs on windows’ wares as up and down the boulevard they spent their thoughts and dreams and came to bring the wishes that were founded on the hope so gently spun by pioneers and settlers strong yearning simply to be free from mountain streams to far-off fields and dreams so very far away from mortal schemes and far-flung themes that yearn to go astray while sure-born shoppers shop through life’s meandering merchandise of memories |
