For a long time, I had considered writing some form of tribute to Sy (Seymour Tabin) for not only his contributions to our little home here, but also for being the kind, gentle and talented man he is. There is someone much better qualified than I, however, to pen such a testimonial. This poem is from his youngest daughter, Faun, who knows him better than any of us could ever hope to. When your children feel this way toward you, you've done something right. As you will see, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
.
.

The Illustrious Man
.
.
He speaks but few and hears still less
Yet worlds of words fill minds abyss
With pen and brush and blended stroke
He weaves his way thoughts to provoke

A man of romance from the past
His rhymes, his soul, his everlast
Prolificacy beyond norm
I struggle to maintain his form

He leaves behind a legacy
A multicolored tapestry
His words of rhyme and artistry
His child of child, his progeny

Who is this illustrious man,
He is my dad and I his fan.

No man deserves a tribute more than he, our man Sy. God bless and how lovely.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

What a lovely poem of appreciation from a daughter to her revered father and poet!

The apple did not fall far from the tree! It appears that poetic ink flows in the bloodline of the Tabins.

I would also like to congratulate Mr. T. on his 8 years of dedication and love to these blue pages and to his fellow pipsters! PiP PiP Hooorraaay!

Love & Poetic Light to both Sy-Guy and his precious and talented daughter!

What a wonderful tribute to your dad, Faun ... I can see that poetic talent runs in the family!

Sweet Sy ... you are a lucky guy!

Sy, I hope you know how much I missed your morning poems with my cup of tea while I was on my little sabaticle ... I didn't realize how much I missed them until I returned to my morning routine. You have started my morning with a smile more times than you'll ever know ... and for that kind sir ... I thank you dearly.

Best wishes and hugs to you all,
/Kit

Faun,

What a wonderful tribute to your Dad.  He has inspired so many here, so I wanted to join in the tribute if I may.  He's the first person I "see" each morning for words of wisdom to start my dad.  I am so proud also to call him my friend, and share these pictures with you.

What a lovely tribute. I see he has passed on his talent I've also had the opportunity to meet this fine man and his sweet and caring wife and I will never forget him This was my small tribute to him after meeting him...love you sy
Ruth

A Gentleman and a Scholar

His soft expressions light his face
Both eyes and smile display his grace
And yet these things are just a part
Of what makes up this poet’s heart
His words omit a subtle flair
That takes us readers unaware
In lines so rare, all wisdom’s found
In every verse, talent abounds
A gentleman he’ll always be
He’s bonded proof of chivalry
Though I’ve met plenty, you can bet
A sweeter man, I’ve never met

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Thanks, Mike, for getting Faun's poem up for Sy.

Thank's Faun for sharing your beautiful tribute!

Sharon, that's a winner!

And thanks, Sy, for just being your wonderful, sharing self.  The kind of man you are leaks out through your poetry....no wonder so many people love you!   .....jo

I saw Sy by the sea
Squinting at something
Sy only could see.
Searching horizons
Not open to me
As I saw Sy by the sea.

Life is a see-saw
It's all ups and downs.
Seems like a spiral
How it bends around
But Sy has a vision
To see the unseen
The good side - the bad side
And all in-between
His senses decipher
What minds cannot see
How can I know this?
It whispered to me
When I saw Sy by the sea.

Ever the gentle man, the gentleman, the poet who can tap into our soul...Sy personifies Passions in Poetry. And he's a darn good artist in other ways too...

This is a lovely tribute to your dad Faun. He should be as proud of you as you are of him.

Deer One... If my arms could reach, I'd wrap you in a big ole bear hug for this... No one is more quiet and unassuming... nor is anyone more deserving of accolades galore. His talents are treasures... his friendship a gift, priceless beyond measure.

Faun, I've met your mom and dad... and you obviously inherited both talent and grace from them. I know your words must touch him... they surely filled my heart!!

Sharon, Hoot & Bal... beautiful tributes... thank you! *S*

Seymour, dear friend... You are so loved... and so deserving of that love. Thank you for being the man you are!!

Faun,

When a man's children see their father as
special, then it is easy for him to become special before others...

and this is just what your poem relays.

I, too, am among your admirers. I wish I could say that I have known you for a long time - and that I know you as a friend, but I can't.  What I can say is I recognize your kindness, that you are a gentleman, and that you write the most touching and lovely poetry.  I am honored to know you the bit that I do through your art - thank you for sharing you.

And thank you to your daughter for writing, and sharing, such a loving tribute to you, her father.

I came back to this thread to read some of the further comments. There is such an outpouring of love and adoration for Sir Sonneteer ~ and deservedly so.

I went into the archives to search for one of the poems that I wrote for our beloved Mr. T. and thought I'd repost it here as part of this Seymour love fest.

Bed of Roses
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Drink the magic of fantasy's store,
In the Land of Forevermore.
Sate your soul in the ecstasy,
Of love, and laughter, and revelry.

O'er troubled bridges, may you leap,
And with the angels ~ may you sleep.
While all is blessed ~ both near and far,
In your land of Shangri-La.

May manna be your food divine,
And nectar brewed to honey wine.
And all you feel, see, think, and do,
Be reflections of the god in you.

May moon and stars shine down on thee,
In your dreams of fantasy.
As you lie in sweet repose,
On petal bed of love's red rose.

Loves 'n hugs 'n angel kisses,
EA

Thank you, Bal... first for posting this... and again for bumping it up today. Both the poems and the pictures bring the taste of bittersweet... sadness at losing him... smiles that we were lucky enough to know him.

Faun - I know Sy treasured this lovely gift you wrote for him. So do we... thank you.

As I think of Sy, I think of all who have loved him ~ those of you on these pages who have written so many loving things about him (and each other).  You are all what makes people like me want to stay at PiP when we first enter these doors.

There is no more fitting time to say that all of you who are on the earlier boards, posting your hearts out, forming friendships that have spanned the years ... well, all of you have made me remain here and bask in the parts of you that you have shared.

Thank you for sharing, for loving and opening PiP to those like me who have wandered in later.

Sy, you are in my heart.
