In the place of petals flung to the wind
I had a barbecue with photographs
Faces fertilized the soil--
Bad dirt that I didn’t cry over anymore
But I didn’t feel like planting
another pretty seed
So weeds took over,
and I liked them
homegrown like me
They stand as a testament
to my faith:
I can burn the field down,
and it never fails
after a good rain
something breaks ground
with tiny green fingers,
and then I know them big yellow eyes
come after
Damn sight more inviting
than the briar patch I once had in the bed.

I knew you would have a punch line, and you
have not failed me yet!  Welcome back to the
fold....Gee, as absent as I have been...the
nerve of me.
