here is something i wrote a few months back. don't know how well it is as i've never taken much in the way of classes and such.

(Days Go By)

what we've done leads us to now
as our dreams drives us on somehow
but it's bad to follow our dreams
as all they are our little mental schemes
not true but wishing it to be
misdirection via a dream

the days go by quicker than you know
it's gone now, where did it go?
should i?
what if i did?
how would it be?
different? better? worse?
doesn't matter though, it's all history

as we go day by day
choice after choice
what we decide
can make us rejoice
or wince in pain of what did
how do we know what we should have done
too late now there goes the sun

our lives are like day and night
bright as can be and bleak with no light
not at different times but together the same
the good and the bad helps keep us sane

being too good is bad
being too bad is good
all in how you look at it
either way you’re misunderstood

now the time has come to find the way
but can you find it here in all the haze?
oh, guiding light where are you now?
show me my way
someway.... somehow

Welcome... It is good. You don't need classes to become a great poem. You need desire, commitment, and practice. Also remember that good poets can be anyone since good poetry is a very subjective thing. One person may love it while another may not.

Lots of good pondering here CaptainK ... I particularly enjoyed the following:

"but it's bad to follow our dreams
as all they are our little mental schemes"

True indeed. Welcome to Passions, much enjoyed your first offering.

Best wishes,
/Kit
