It had rested covered in the corner
since that day he saw the reflection
of everything he had never   wanted
to see.

Still, it was there staring steadily
at him through silent moments.
Guilt had greeted him that morning
and he had trembled with regret,
then lashing out in anger;
collapsing in anguish.

That was then,
    this is now
and time
ever constant, had given him
grace of forgiveness
along with a fading
of         yesterdays memories.

He fingered the faded fabric
feeling the emotions of that day,
the sheet, still soft to the touch.
Yes, years had granted him grace
but there lingered the fleeting moments
that would make his mind recall
the stir of echoes;
seconds filled with his burden of shame
as sounds of internal screams
and glass shattering,
ripped through the    silence

Years had passed
and time had healed wounds.
He was alone now, she who had
stayed with faithfulness and forgiveness
had long ago been taken from this world.
This room of memories had
remained unvisited since then.
Its pull had been urging him,
saying, it is time.

    Yes, time.

He reached, uncovering the
broken shards of glass
no longer afraid
of the reflection
they held….

No more hangin' on to the past
No more filling up my tomorrows
With yesterday's sorrows
No more lookin' over my shoulder {T.Tritt}

Our guest speaker at church was a Preacher
who emphasized letting go the past and
moving forward, ever forward.. Your poem
holds much of the same message.
