Nothing I thought I had you, there tall, standing with giant smile gesturing, in motions I understand. I gave you all of me, what I did not know was there. We planned, funneling energy into every day, directing each other to a future lit in candlelight. You gave me the best of you, what has been left behind for me to carry; I hold it empty, nothing, nothing, nothing. You visited me in solemn presence, holding my body in ghost hands; I felt you, tracing my lip with invisible motion. This is my delusion. She shelters you better now. Tiny boy calls to his father incoherently. It is not enough. What will this mean tomorrow? Nervous moods take control, reality is gone, nothing, nothing, nothing. Attempts, futile snag your knees locking you in place frozen with responsibility. Cherish is a word unheard by your ears unfelt in your heart, and unknown to this new man you’ve become. Eaten, a disease disrupts your being, questioning who you really are. I do not know. There is only nothing, nothing, nothing. Eyes fall blank upon my face, you cry inside. I heard you in my sleep, telling of your devotion. I awake and I still have nothing. |
