               Dusk, rising

               If I could, I would gather up
               this flight of delicate lights,
               express them to you before the dawn
               so you could enjoy this evening delight.

               Could you not sleep through
               some other lesser night
               and enjoy this unplugged display,
               now, in all directions?

               I'd have to send along
               the unmowed grass
               or the fields of corn
               over which they fly.

               I'm sorry that I can not.
               I suppose you will just have to imagine
               the apparent chaos of their formalities
               in the green ballroom of their desirings.

               But if we would, we could
               join in the their courting,
               on this long summer night
               of full moon and fireflies.

               Care to dance?
