Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

Erased by Time

She crumpled, my Mother did
Holding her cat to her chest
So frail, just home from the hospital,
And she cried silently

Her face cracked
And fell about her feet

Silent sobs smashed against her chest

My heart broke with her, her voice -
When did it become so small?
Her eyes - I’ll never forget the sorrow
“He’s dying,” she said
as she cradled him close

I took him from her, his body was air
And bones
Light, so light, as I held him in my arms
And vowed I would find a way to save him
For her, my Mother

But I couldn’t do it.

At night sometimes, pieces of her face
Sneak upon me
And I hear a whisper of fear
Once again, I am taken to that helpless place
That place which denies magic
Where only time can erase the tears

From my Mother’s face.

Alison

(This was written last winter -- my Mother is much better and dotes on her remaining cat ... and her daughter (of course) ~ grins)

once my cat died, I have never wanted another one...this is so painful... I'm glad your mom is happier now.

Thank you all so much

I have held this poem back
unsure how it would translate to others

I am happy you all understood
and cared enough to comment.

Thank you again.
Alison
