Selfish tears

~~~Selfish Tears~~~

I don’t know why I’m crying,
I’m trying very hard to not
I know where my friend is now,
he’s reached the goal he sought.

I guess I’m crying for myself,
for these are selfish tears
And I cry for other friends,
he made throughout his years.

And I cry for all the family,
who must carry on alone
I also cry some happy tears,
knowing that he’s Home.

I guess I cry because I must,
for crying is what I do
And when you leave and Home you go,
I’ll cry selfish tears for you.

thanks so much for reading and commenting on my poem, and also thanks for the sympathy. He's been gone nto quite a year, yet I still miss the big lug. Hugs from, Dee

This brought me back close to three decades, to a "loss" that just wasn't, or shouldn't, have happened.

And yes, his name was Joe.
