I wonder at times if it even matters
what we write.
Does it change the world? No.
I'm a poet with nowhere to go,
lost in the night.

Words mostly forgotten
of love and loss and life,
of hate and anger and bitterness,
of sadness, toil, stress and strife.

Does it really matter what I write?

Would a book be that important
until after I am dead?
Have I moved my way into your heart
and given logic in your head?

Does it really matter what I write?
Does it matter what I feel?
Can you relate to what I am going through?
Who really knows me real?

I am a poet but
I ask...exactly what

does it matter
what I write?

It absolutely matters!  No matter how inept I might be at writing, I know there is someone else (just as inept in their own way) somewhere reading it and realizing that THEY ARE NOT ALONE.  So, I take comfort in my ineptitude and continue writing.  It is an absolute joy reading (and relating to) artists like yourself, who can capture an emotion I didn't even know I had until I've read it!

It matters to me as a writer - when I write I see things more clearly.  I am able to take time to soothe my emotions.

It matters to me as a reader - I read the emotions that others write or see the world through their eyes.  Or I just smile at their humor. Sometimes I wipe a tear - and sometimes I wonder how anyone can write such crap (which gets me thinking).

I always enjoy your poetry.  I think you are a beautiful writer - so yes, it matters.

What we write matters a great deal Passing Shadows.  It is a journey through our souls and gives insight  to who we are.  We are writers, gifted with word and it tells the world how we feel and who we are.  It brings kinship with those who can not write how they feel.  So it does matter what we write and it always will.  It is also our way of letting go of things both good and bad.  I enjoyed this poem very much.

It matters for the voices in your head they need a voice, to share the tears they turn to ink through gift of word, your choice. For we'd go mad for sure my friend if we could not express and find that life would be much worse, a sad and total mess. So all the words you share are read, they may help or depress, a poet needs to share her work and never it supress.

Keep writing my friend.

"To write is to erase, to erase is to write..."  my motto

If nothing more, writing and reading others' writing helps us move on...

I've enjoyed reading your writing very much over the years.  YES!  It makes a difference!  Just knowing there is someone out there who has shared some of the same thoughts as you have makesa a big difference.

Even if it were one line, it would matter;
even two words: Passing shadows

Sis,

It always matters what you write.  You have one of the most beautiful souls I've ever met. I just wish you could open your eyes and see it for yourself.

Passing shadows,

Well, yes it does.  Even bad poetry can have a significant effect.

Check out the first verse of Francis Scott Key's "Defense of Fort McHenry".

You might have heard it sung a time or two.

Dixie, of course it matters because it's what you do and you do it with passion and commitment.  All things pass - that is a fact but in the now your words touch many and do indeed "make a difference".  In any case, pip wouldn't be the same without passing shadows.

I think even if it matters to no one else it should matter to you. After all that's the reason we write because we have to, because we have the way of expressing emotion that no one can match. That's why  we call ourselves poets. And if other's are touched by our words - isn't that a bonus?
