The Cheshire moon hangs low in the Kansas sky, as
Stars fall like rain from the heavens above.
I am in awe of this incomprehensible sight,
        Make a wish...
But really I am only half in the moment.
1,000 miles away, and still not far enough
To escape the hold you have on me.
        What did you wish for?
If I tell, it won't come true...
The Cat laughs at me as he sinks below the horizon.
Stars still streaming across the heavens,
I am wishing to share this moment with you,
And in doing so have effectively removed myself
From it's magnificence.
I blame you.

Well, I've lived in Michigan, and I live in Kansas...and I can appreciate this moment of thought, loss, and life.

Well done, poet.

a Kansas sky indeed

I still miss it

One Wise Old Kansas Owl

Once you can see the big picture,
the grand scheme of it all,
you realize that people are mostly good
and the world is truly small.

Gazing one night upon a Kansas sky,
I watched an old owl gliding by.
How simple life can be, I thought,
no need for all those wars I fought.

Time. Hours taken in stride.
The secret is to enjoy the ride.
When it's over, just tip your hat.
'Happy' comes easy if you think like that.

Silly, but when I saw that bird,
somehow, I finally understood
things can change without a word,
the world is small
and people are good.

Dear Passing Shadows,
I have only been through Kansas once... in the middle of the night.  I have never seen it by day, but somehow I know it's absolutely beautiful.

Thank you for the comment!

yes, it is quite beautiful indeed....I sat many nights there on the porch watching the sun go down and the fireflies come out.

I was only there for about 5 weeks and felt bad that I had to leave

and I too am now 1000 miles away back in Florida and still miss it dearly

but this poem touched me since I have a piece of Kansas in my heart, especially the sky
