Phoenix
He admires the creature
from head to its tail
Such power and strength
Yet graceful and frail

A small flame arises
So cozy and warm
the creature the fire
they mean him no harm

Flickering dancing
a frightening show
Creeping and climbing
the flame starts to grow

Singeing and burning
the billowing smoke
clouds eyes and clogs lungs
cough sputter choke

The creature consumed
Its burned at the stake
And to the reality
of life he awakes

Screaming and crying
the creature does wail
he weeps for the death
of the creature so frail

Yet full of such beauty
now burned to the ground
its small voice is silenced
the fire abounds

Beauty and wonder
so 'jestic and grand
Now only ashes
burnt finer than sand

A pile of sorrow
left by the flames
of the glorious creature
tis all that remains

Drowned by the sadness
dead in the ash
like posion thru veins
his teeth grind and gnash

But up from the ashes
does something arise
a new baby creature
utters new little cries

Ashes of sorrow
from wince it once came
born in new beauty
a picture to frame

New life springs from death
and joy from old sorrow
that grace may abound
at least til the morrow

The answer to the myst'ry
He never shall know
but from the ash in his life
doth love overflow

I really enjoyed the flow and cadence in this piece, and seeing your pen name made me smile as I recall to mind a very dear friend who also enjoys greeneggs'n'ham.  Welcome to Pip, I will be looking forward to more from your pen.
