Things have certainly changed
In the neighborhood

These once new houses
That everyone then was so proud to own
Have settled heavily into their time

The late model cars along the curbs
Hardly obscure how old they are
That certain sagging among the eaves

There must be a name I imagine
For when after ever so long
Shrapnel wends its way out of a wound

However safely and deeply buried
In the files for the next few days
It might as well be on the walls

No matter how blind the heart might be
There’s always another inside who sees
With a cold and clearer eye

Those vipers that slithered among the leaves
That tiger too often behind the door

The garbage so carelessly strewn
In the Garden of Eden

And why no one’s in a rush
To get undressed anymore

I like thinking about how neighborhoods change, or not and how we should and do.

Enjoyed this one.  It made me think of peeling paint and fading dreams.

I like it too.

It made me think how subtle change is.  It is so insidious sometimes that we don't realize that we are swept along in those changes -- until later or until it is too late maybe.

nothing ever looks the same when gone awhile

I stayed in Kansas for 5 weeks and came back...things looked so different to me on arrival

nothing I could put into words though I guess

A couple of weeks ago I went back to the house I've been born and grew up, the house was pretty much the same but the envirement changed a lot and that made me feel a bit sad, still in my mind I heard children's voices.... sigh....

nice poem!!!
