Once thrived a town called Glitter Gulch, out Colorado way,
One of the many "boom towns" that were common in that day.
The glitter came from specks of gold that shone in midday sun
Attracting those who lived by dreams and those who ruled by gun.

The town became quite prosperous as precious gold was mined
By settlers filling saddlebags with all that they could find.
By day they mined the hillsides and by light of western moon,
They headed for their favorite spot - the Lazy Dog saloon.

Town only had two places where the men could ease their stress..
The Lazy Dog saloon and Mary's House of Happiness.
Mary's has been spoken of  by this poor balladeer
And, if you care to learn some more, then you can find it here.

As quick as Glitter Gulch rose up,  that's just how quick it fell.
The mines ran out much quicker than any poor soul could foretell.
The hopes and dreams were wiped out as they vanished way too soon.
All that remained was Mary's and the Lazy Dog saloon.

It's now my choice to chronicle this piece of history.
My grandpa told my father who then passed them on to me.
The characters were colorful, to say the very least
And I hope to provide you with a literary feast.

It's sad how tales can dissipate and slowly fade away
About the folks who made this country what it is today
But I won't let it happen here. I'll mosey back here soon
With vibrant recollections from the Lazy Dog saloon.

And I do so love a good story--

and yep, you can make a gal forget she is reading. (I am now pondering the possibility of a previous life as a can-can girl. Especially since I am now a can't-can't. Gotta be karma. )

Loved this--love you!
