reposted because I am just in this kind of mood once again

Waffle House Coffee

There's something about Waffle House coffee
on a dark and chilly winter night,
a booth seat for one, facing the road,
not even any homeless in sight,

it makes me fearful and full of fright.

The world sleeps while I sit there
sipping in between gazing out
past my reflection in the window,
refills just bring memories about,

it makes me lonely and full of doubt.

A friend once told me what Deepak said,
that we are not defined by yesterdays,
yesterdays no longer exist, that's true,
but does anyone know what a memory weighs?

And though I want to leave, it stays.

There's something about Waffle House coffee
with two o'clock in the morning frost
that keeps me in grieving, and then perhaps
if I stay, I'll get back what I lost.

beautiful. You are a philosopher now.

Love "And though I want to leave, it stays." and "if I stay, I'll get back what I lost."

enjoyed  this wonderful one, truly.

"does anyone know what a memory weighs?"

I like the mood you're in.
Great re-post.

not much to add to what several fine 'P.I.P.' authors have already said...
[I would have chosen to highlight the same lines that they did!]...

so I will say simply: this 'write' is superb! [a grand 'read' for me!]

sustained applause!!

Something about your ability to take me to this world too.  I see and feel what you write -- I think that is what makes you an artist in my mind.

Sitting in a coffee house, late at night, with windows that act like mirrors to our soul, it does cause us to turn inward and you caught this perfectly.
