“Runners, Take your marks! Get Set! PAX!” with the sound of the gun my heart skipped a beat , it was always the race before mine that made me insecure, the butterflies in my stomach were beginning to soar! I got up to jog around to keep my body warm , but even with all that preparation I knew I could not save my confidence , because truly how could you save what you never had? I crossed paths with my rival things were looking bad, . It was a Saturday night , 200m open men’s qualifying round , here I was at 16 racing against men, my head and my heart sank to the ground , it seemed uncanny ,how I now hated Saturday nights , I had always hated Saturday nights since the first of January , the first day of the track season ,and the first day of my fight with myself I crouched low to the side of the track , that way everyone would see my back, not that it mattered , because as soon as that gun goes of again it will be me who is staring at their backs. In this corner I began to battle with my myself like I always did “you can do this Marc!” I said to myself , but why did I have to ? If I was born 1month later I would be competing against guys my age, curse this athletic system , curse it for barricading me from my hopes and dreams! “No I will not let this break me! I have to fight back !” but the system was constructed against me and this was but a cemetery in the guise of a track The starter blew the whistle; “Runners to the line!” I had an instant adrenaline rush, it was right then and there I knew I had to leave my fears behind ! The starter called the names of the competitors , not that it mattered to me , I was simply a runt , no simply prey to these gigantic predators in this athletic cemetery. Lane 6 :representing The quantum leap athletic program :Marc Burns , it was amazing how those words brought my fear to a standstill, I instantly sought to make the quantum leap from an outmatched teenager to a noticed competitor ! “Runners, take your Marks” I stretched my hamstrings and at the same time stretched my imagination , stretched it with expectations of victory ! I entered my blocks and relaxed my breathing and prepared my mind for the task I was taking , silently anticipating “Set!” I got up in the set position and I also set my eyes to the line and I also set my mind to beating my rival’s time I held my breath and gathered my strength , my muscles were tight , my focus was dense “PAX!!” I exhaled with every bit of force my body could expound I drove out of my blocks and my spikes left the ground Smiling |

I trust that there is a part two to this exciting introductory poem! Actually, that was a cool closing! My goodness, you described your feelings and the setting so well, that I actually felt it was I who was in the starting blocks! Giving you a warm, welcoming hug, Earth Angel |
