One could hear
The high school band
For hours practicing
For the big parade

It is time again
For hot dogs
Beer and barbecues with various
Other meats sizzling on the grill

Craft fairs at the shopping malls
Special sales on summer styles
Sure to catch the eye

Far away from flowers
In distant weedy battlefields

Little flags fluttering
Among stones

this is beautiful poem of soft voice with a powerful sound.

the only time that we are in the time of out of time of human killing.

I remember years ago... ( darn I sound like my parents) we had school and it was a holiday only if you took off and went to a prayer service for Memorial Day.

Today it is a day of sales and marketing...for not just this holiday but for all holidays.
