Its night now
And the messenger
Searches for his
Son through the
Alley of green
That scatters the
Forests shade of
Grassy Knowles.

The night resides
In his footsteps,
Where time portrays
Angst that this
Father can’t shake.

The owl spies
From atop the trees
Gangly branch,
As the messenger
Grips his sweat-ridden hands.

Each step seemed
Longer than the last,
As if the night was
The only light that
Stared into his
Lost, drooped face.

The footprints of the forest,
The remnants of struggle,
This messengers journey.
