Appalachia

When night is long and
dawn breaks hearts in cruel fashion,
Appalachian
hills dancin’ the ‘zigzag-rag’
tickle my mind to whimsy!

Secondhanddreampoet,

Geez, everyone's taking me down memory lane.

I'm originally from Altoona.  Beautiful mountains, you described them well.

Thanks everyone!

As I geologist, I know exactly why the Appalachians "zig-zag" ('turn around' on themselves)...
but, unfortunately...it is too 'involved' to mention here.  A briefer and more 'interesting'?!) point is
that the 'Appalachians' are exactly the same mountains as the 'Caledonians' (that continue in my
beloved Scotland)...In the Paleozoic Era of
"Deep-Time" (geologic history)...there was once only one giant 'supercontinent' (and no Atlantic Ocean).
What is now N. America and parts of Whales/Scotland were 'connected'! (and the now 'broken' mountain
chain ran across the 'supercontinent' back then until it was 'split' by the opening of the Atlantic ocean due to
'plate tectonics' activity.)

Isn't it wonderful, Bruce, how Nature looks after us when we most need her - and even when we don't - or is there ever a time that we don't?
