Tiger Don’t Eat Grass Tigers laze in miday sun their very essence shared, for when they’re caring for their kind their fangs are seldom bared, but should a danger threaten those that tigers hold their own they’ll give their life to then protect all those who share their home. This beast of beauty, strength and power with independent streak is emblem of a lifetime’s love where power is also meek. A tiger’s heart both fierce and kind depending on the need lifts them above all earthly beasts, brings honour to their breed Courageous, fearsome, gentle beasts no other can surpass, but just remember, it’s their world, and Tigers Don’t Eat Grass! Ivor G Davies The moment created this second, is a moment that's going to last. It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past. |

Ivordavies, Of souls, I have no lack. Tiger, you can have a soul, just leave my ass intact. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I liked your poem. Bobby |

Nah, tigers don't steal souls - Robert's right, however, they will take a bite out of your ass and serve it up for a snack. Again, you wrote a poem that I love, Ivor. Good job. A |

The tiger is a pussycat, And very little more than that He's gone downhill and that's the truth Since he misplaced his sabre-tooth. He runs quite fast - I'll give him that But he can't even catch a rat Or much of any other thing... The LION is the only King!!!!! |

The lion , unfortunately, is over-rated His legendary powress way too easily sated He lumbers more than stalks with feline ease It's been said, his mane is filled with fleas The tiger slinks with the swagger of a ruling cat His body sleek and tawny, not an ounce of fat Padded paws make no thundering sound The lion hides his crown when the tiger's around |

The Lion as you say is King but on his own he is nothing, his women hunt to save his hide they are the ones who feed his pride! No independant noble beast, for on his own he'd be deceased, while Tigers, like all pussycats, can fight alone and don't eat rats! So salute the King, but please take heed that tigers do much more than breed, while Lions roar to prove their role a Tiger's growl echo's it's soul! Very much enjoyed this. I had a dream once of a young boy riding a white tiger in the jungles of Indonesia. I will never forget it -- your poem packs a punch on more than one level. Much enjoyed.....jo |

Hey, ivordavies! What the heck?!? Aziza!! Are you mad? To place a tiger at the top is really very sad. Comparison between the two is simple lunacy! Methinks you need refresher courses of our history. Way back then when time began and mankind made the scene They named the constellations that could visibly be seen. They chose the lion, naturally, to be one of the few. I don't recall a tiger in the nighttime sky....do you????? Sir ivordavies, you're an English fellow, are you not? Historic kings there led their troops in many battles fought. They chose heroic nicknames they would be remembered by... But Richard the Tiger-Hearted doesn't ring a bell though....why? When MGM looked for a symbol it would like to use The lion and its roar was what the studio would choose. When Disney made its megahit that Elton John could sing It wouldn't have been successful had it been The Tiger King. Let's face it. Tigers have their points, I'll happily agree But, deep inside, a tiger's just a lion wannabe And, in the end, when facts are viewed, the simple truth is that The tiger's just a pussy and the lion's one mean cat! |

My cousin owned two white tigers ~ and man alive, could they ever EAT!!! I took all the precautions necessary to prevent myself from becoming one of their meals. Gorgeous beasts, they were! Huge! ~ and with the most beautiful blue eyes! I enjoyed your poem! ~ and no, tigers don't eat grass! lol Linda |

Drauntz, Bobby, PS, Seymour, aziza, TNO, Balladeer, iliana and Linda, Thank you all for your replies and the excellent rhyming responses from aziza and Balladeer. I am certainly not going to try to continue my defense of the Tiger's status when faced with such well researched and excellent poetry Two different animals, with their own strengths, it is the independance of all cats that I admire most... 'Tiger don't Eat Grass' is actually an oriental saying indicating that you do not give this type of person repetative or mundane tasks to do! It is also the title of 'Oriental and Occidental Aphorismson on the Life of Business and the Business of Life' compiled by Ronald Jenkins. I have actually personally sourced, purchased and presented a copy of this book to every member of my senior management teams because I am so impressed with it! It is well worth the £10 to £20 pounds each I bought the seven extra copies for over the last two years! (my original cost just £3 in a cheap book store many years ago}... Earth Angel I actually have a large tattoo of a blue eyed tiger that I had done two years ago in Turkey.... Joan thought I was joking as it is the first tattoo I have had done (belated 60th birthday present) and the grandkids thought it would wash off! Thank you all once again.... Ivor Now let's leave those Lions to their grazing! |

Ok, I confess....I have always considered the tiger to be an absolutely magnificent creature. Being a Leo I had little choice but to defend my "pride". Speaking of tiger slogans, there's one in Spanish.."Donde roncan los tigres, no hay burros con reumatismo" - where tigers roam there are no arthritic donkeys. Than you, sir, for causing my muse to come out of hiding for a brief moment. Best to you.. |

Well, honestly, I do love them both and Lions? Well, who can dispute their reign in the jungle and beyond. But Tigers? Well, they are simply "GREATTTTT"! Loved the poems. A |
