Downs and Wooded Parks The solace Of a quiet Sunday, Spent in the country With a visit To the Downs And then onto the Park. We had planned Kite flying On the Downs, But - alas! Our plans had gone awry, For there had been …no wind, To lift the kite, Leaving us… Somewhat disappointed. Onto the wooded Park And a picnic, Where we ate Far too much. We sprawled on blankets And nodded off, Enjoying the solitude In companionable silence. A peaceful afternoon, ‘neath blue skies And verdant trees. Suddenly! A gust of wind Aggressively took form, And lifted the kite That was propped Against the wicker basket… And unceremoniously Plonked it in a tree. The child within us cried, For fear the kite would tear, In our efforts to retrieve So we left it there, Trapped within the branches Of the large trees, Posing a question For those who came after. Wondering who on earth Would allow a child To fly a kite Within such a heavily wooded area? How quiet the wooded Park On a Sunday afternoon. Trees so close together That the sky Is virtually unseen, And a kite A kite? Hanging…for all to see And to speculate. |

Dinah~ 'companionable silence' Oh my ... how many of us fully realize those moment of being together ... sharing those moments of 'silence'~ YEP ... I like that very thought~ As an avid kite-flyer ... I often would set kites adrift with a note attached (and often a free pass to my roller skating center) ... then cut the string ... and let that kite find a place to land ... often delighting a child as it fluttered into their yard ... what joy it was to hear from those who found the kites~ Can you tell that you evoked so many fond memories in this lady ? Thank you~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

You have described a beautiful day at the park, with wonderful imagery. I love the addition of the kite for all to see and wonder about. |
