Summer, Shhh, Spring Needs to Shed Tears

I do not wish to see beyond the second greening
of Spring this year, at least, not yet,

for it comes in quietly, now, leaving raindrops
to kiss the warming, but desiccated earth,
quietly allowing                  a belief
that the cracked earth might soak its fill,
and better yet, to consent anew to
underground reservoirs a new life
where caves dwell under the layers
of this parched ground.

Winter took its time to play with us, April
Fooling us with a hint of warm, then
colliding with our bare senses, stripping
naked the promises leafing out before us.
Winter was a scoundrel in drag, a culprit
that broke some sweet promise, when even the
youngest tendril flirted, until laid low by Winter’s
icy charms.

I do not wish to see Summer before its time,
when verdant sounds and emerald grounds feel
fulfilled trees of leaves and a robin’s love nest
swells with chirping, hungry life.

I do not wish to see Summer so early
that the fields will again be rendered too dry,
too barren, and dust is hidden behind the airlessness of
too still a day.

Spring, pray, continue, shed your release,
fill ponds and dwell wet on fly-ridden backs
of sheep and cattle, removing the temptation
for liquid through blood;
fill the brooks and crevices with pungent swells
allow even yon beavers to know a need
to replenish their home from mighty forces
of spring waters, and allow once again

that the footfall of Summer might arrive
upon carpets of green dew.

so lovely~~ and I, too wish for Spring to  stay around a bit longer this year. I  don't want to feel the heat of summer so early.

What a beautiful plea! *S* It would go unanswered here... you know we're lucky if spring lasts 24 hours. *S*

I hear rumors of a 2nd book? When? (and please... not "soon" LOL... I can't wait that long! *G*)

Dear Sissie...I have talked to seasons before, thinking they would listen.  I have a feeling spring will stay...if not in time, than in your heart.

It sounds like we should send some of our weather over your way!   I, too, worry about the affect mixed up seasons have on the plants and animals.  Saving this...

Karilea...

"Spring, pray, continue, shed your release,"

a plea to Spring
a lilting song

I believe Spring is listening
think I saw him turn his head toward you...
