Felix is hungry. He gets that way from not eating. He walks the city streets, his stomach hurts, and his head is throbbing. It feels as if his bellybutton is rubbing up against his backbone. Felix peers into food shop windows, sees people in there eating. That only makes it worse. Sometimes he’ll go into a five and ten cent store, and ask for a drink of water. That usually works. The counter clerks look at him, and see he’s just a kid. He’ll always remember those counter clerks for their kindness. Bobby |

Bobby, I don't often comment on free verse, but there is something about this that draws me. Maybe it reflects the state of the world and how we always remember kindness... Ivor |

Ivor, Thanks for reading and the kind words. Kindness does have a way of being remembered, doesn't it? Felix is older now, and that still hangs in his mind. James, Thanks for reading, and the kind words. I'm pleased you enjoyed the poem. Bobby |
