Ah young Werther
You’re so hot and bothered
Completely addled by another’s girl

You think the world not worth breathing in
Unless you can have her at your side

It’s not my wish
Or intent to watch over you
That’s quite enough for such a child

Yet if you go and do
As Sturm and Drang now orders you
Please tell our Lord when you arrive

Pray Dear Sir
Please bequeath his wasted years
To someone fit to be alive

The Sorrows of Young Werther
by Goethe

It's a real tear jerker; young men
all over Europe began to wear the same
clothes and shoot themselves, some dying
with their hand on a particular open page.

Thanks for reading

Would that I could speak this
with the staggering 'voice' of
der sturm (though Goethe might
re-dangle his 'distastes')....

EXCELLENT 'write'!

much applause!!

I do know some young ones died holding this book. I can not blame them. it is their parents' fault. love is for living, not for death. true love brightens life not kills life.

very good poem with a father's tune.
still, very sad.

I hope you don't mind me adding my AMEN after reading these lines.

You've written a wonderful poem... but more... you've reminded us all why Ron has some of the guidelines he does for PIP... words glorifying a particular choice often lead others to follow that same path.

I think Goethe himself would be quite satisfied with your advice to the young Werther!

Love,
Margherita
