. Take one Any one Anyone at all Over there Her name is Karen . . . Laura Sarah Mary Jane Bobbie Sue . . . When she was a little girl She used to play By the railroad tracks Go to church Though she didn’t like it much Always more comfortable In her jeans She wore red mittens In winter snows . . . Had one teddy bear That was dear to her More than any doll . . . She fell in love With a boy next door Who didn’t know And never will But that was long ago . . . Yet all this of course Is brazen fantasy Neither you or I Knowing that woman’s history Having never seen her Before this hour Still now Though none of it May apply to her Because for a moment You thought it so She will never be zero In your soul . |
