a pony’s slick loins curve under the eye hooves lift lightly bending with grace walleyed he runs around and around waiting to perform mane lifted by running and indecision red brown in the sun crest bowed oh he is a beautiful creature glossy with the sweat of intention power gathers in his muscles and then he flies fanciful exacting exquisite still he is only a one trick pony not able even to bow |

This is one of the absolute best 'writes' that I have had the unmitigated pleasure of reading in a very long time! [I was clearly 'transported' to the wonderful scene arranging itself via the vivid imagery of this peace!] Excelent! [This message has been edited by secondhanddreampoet (03-25-2007 08:22 PM).] |

I understand the poem, but I have to wonder--has anyone checked the pony's hearing? Perhaps he just can't hear the applause and doesn't know any better about "bowing". (Karen is addicted to "House". ) And your lovely poetry. |

I can almost taste the dust in the air, and hear the neigh of apprehension and the hoofbeats of a Pinto pony about to exploe in midair. |

and for just a moment I could see a stallion from some past running through the open fields. Kate, this is just the most lovely visual, and a reminder of a warm memory. Lovely writing hon. Hugs. |

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! (Tearful and wordless!) When I get a moment, I will email you and explain what Flicka, God, you and Aziza (you and Aziza unknowingly) did for me with this poem and the timing of my reading it. However, with regard to one of your responses, I just need to explain to you about your pony. He is not dumb. He is just so noble and lacking in vanity, that he wouldn't respond with a bow, even if he had been taught to bow. He didn't see his performance as we do. He saw it as an expression of his loving life and making others happy. He understood the reaction of the applause as a love reponse. He reponds with love shining out his eyes. Sorry for telling you about your poem-pony, but, you see, I speak Pony. Forgive the stupid questions, but what is the origin of "walleyed"? Is it "wall-eyed" or "walley-ed"? And whichever, what does it mean? Thank you for the Flicka moment. - Owl |
